Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A suspicious individual, identified as Rafiqul Islam Biswas, was arrested by Kolkata Municipal Police near the residence of the city’s Mayor. The man, who was seen loitering in the area, was detained after a routine inspection revealed that his documents were inconsistent. Biswas was found in possession of an Indian passport, but upon further verification, discrepancies surfaced, particularly when his passport details did not match those on his Aadhaar card. Authorities have not disclosed the exact nature of the inconsistencies, but the situation raised immediate concerns.
During questioning, Biswas claimed that he was being framed due to his Bangladeshi background. He alleged that the accusations were fabricated, asserting that he was being targeted because of his origin. Following the arrest, the suspect was taken to the New Market Police Station for further interrogation. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the validity of his documents, while Biswas remains in custody for further examination.
